Dear colleagues,

We hope you could have a pleasant and relaxing summer break. This is to let you all know that with the support of the Portuguese Ministry of Science, Technology and Higher Education by the Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia (FCT), UBI launched a new call for PhD projects devoted to cotutelle within UNITA.  

Seven PhD fellowships, corresponding to funding of 4 years’ salary for PhD Students, are associated to this call, and will be devoted to establish PhD supervision collaboration between UBI and UPPA, UNITO, USMB, UVT, UNIZAR, UNIBS, UPNA, UNITBV, HES-SO, or CHNU researchers. Collaboration with IPG is also possible as a 3rd supervision team member.

The complete call will be composed of two phases. In the 1st phase, PhD projects, linked with a project proposed in the WP4 thematic Hubs, involving a UBI supervisor and one (or two) supervisors in partner universities, will be selected. Special attention will be paid to proposals on future common training programmes, staff and student exchanges and ambition to answer European calls. This first selection process will be ensured by the scientific committees of each thematic area.  

In the 2nd phase, an international call is open for selecting students who apply for a position on the PhD projects selected from the first phase. The final decision on the selected students will be ensured by a Selection Board composed of two (or three) supervisors and representatives of the partner doctoral schools.  

We strongly encourage researchers to use the R&I cartography to identify possible collaboration teams within the UBI research units and contact them to set up a common answer to the call. Otherwise, it is expected that UBI researchers could contact them as well. The timetable for the project and students' selection process is provided at the end of this message.

• Analysis of the applications by scientific committees: From September 18th to September 22th 2023 
• Publishing of results (awarded projects for opening call for students): September 25th 2023 
• Opening of the call for students’ application - EURAXESS: October 2nd 2023 
• Deadline for students answering the call: October 31st 2023 
• Analysis of students’ applications by the selection board: From December 2nd to December 29th 2023 
• Publishing of results (awarded students): by January 31st 2024 
• Starting of the Cotutelles thesis: March 2024
