BAYHOST (Bavarian Academic Center for Central, Eastern and Southeastern Europe) and the Technische Hochschule Nürnberg Georg Simon Ohm would like to invite you to a workshop on artificial intelligence and sustainability in order to initiate international research cooperation on how artificial intelligence can contribute to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the United Nations.
The workshop takes place in Nuremberg on October 29-30, 2026.
The International Research Centre on Artificial Intelligence (IRCAI) under the auspices of UNESCO in Ljubljana promotes projects that use AI to help achieve the SDGs. IRCAI’s main activities include theoretical and applied research, AI education, establishing AI research networks, impact and outreach, policy support and facilitating North-North and North-South cooperation. IRCAI will introduce its activities and opportunities for cooperation at the workshop.
Artificial intelligence is an important component of research activities at the host university, the Technische Hochschule Nürnberg Georg Simon Ohm (the Ohm), be it in innovation projects with industrial applications, in healthcare and social services, in business administration applications or in human-machine interaction. Intelligent, digital solutions for science, industry, and society are being researched and developed.
The participants of the workshop will be able to present their fields of research and proposals for cooperation. A focus is put on the following three SDGs:
3) Good health and well-being
7) Affordable and clean energy
8) Decent work and economic growth
Apart from that, other topics related to supporting sustainability through AI are welcome as well.
The Bavarian Research Alliance (BayFOR) will introduce suitable European funding programs and give advice on how to apply.
The preliminary program and the online application form are available on the BAYHOST website (www.bayhost.de).
We will be delighted to welcome you in Nuremberg!
