The full-time educational process at the university is organised according to the semester system.
The academic year of each course is divided into 2 semesters: autumn (classroom work – 15 weeks, individual classes – 2 weeks, semester control – 3 weeks) and spring (classroom work – 15 weeks, individual classes – 2 weeks, semester control – 3 weeks).
The weekly load is:
- at the first (bachelor) level – no more than 30 hours;
- at the second (master's) level – no more than 18 hours;
- at the third (educational and scientific) level – no more than 18 hours.
Holidays are set twice a year with a total duration of at least 8 weeks, specific terms are determined by the schedule of the educational process for each academic year.
The schedule of study sessions together with the study plan and study programmes of the disciplines is the main document that regulates the organisation and conduction of the educational process at the university.
The semester schedule of classes and exams is drawn up by responsible persons in institutes, faculties, colleges. After agreement with the academic department of the university, the schedule is approved by the rector (first vice-rector).
The schedule of classes of all forms of education is brought to the attention of teachers and students no later than 10 days before the beginning of each semester, and exams – a month before they start.
The educational process in the correspondence form of study at the university involves the following stages:
- an introductory session, during which students are introduced to the main tasks and schedule of study of academic disciplines, provide general information about them, provide methodical materials, explain the system for evaluating educational achievements, etc.;
- the intersessional period, during which students independently master the theoretical material, perform the obtained control tasks;
- examination session, during which students defend tasks completed in the intersessional period, semester control measures are passed.
The total duration of examination sessions (together with guidance) in correspondence education – up to 30 calendar days per year for 1-2 courses and up to 40 calendar days per year for 3-4 courses for a bachelor's degree and for 1-2 courses for a degree master's degree.
When organising credit-examination sessions in the correspondence form of education, it is taken into account that educational classes can be planned for no more than 8 hours per day, while time is allocated separately for conducting exams.
