The beginning of spring at Yuriy Fedkovych Chernivtsi National University was traditionally marked by a youth scientific forum – the III International Conference ‘Plato is my friend, but the truth is more precious’ was held on 3-4 March. This year's conference was dedicated to the 150th anniversary of our Alma Mater and had the focal theme ‘Between Loyalty to Memory and the Search for Truth’, which brought together researchers from 9 foreign countries (Romania, Moldova, Poland, Czech Republic, Germany, Italy, France, Finland, USA) and 12 cities of Ukraine.
The event was organised by the Faculty of Philology, the Faculty of Foreign Languages, the Faculty of History, Political Science and International Relations, the Councils of Young Scientists of these faculties, and the Council of Young Scientists at the Chernivtsi Regional State Administration.
The conference covered a wide range of humanities research. It included three plenary sessions, seven breakout sessions (literary studies, linguistics, philosophy and cultural studies, religious studies and theology, history and politics of memory, Romanian philology, methods of teaching humanities), and a panel discussion on Art, Religion and Other Ways to Mental Healing in Times of War.
The conference was a charity event, with all registration fees (8,000) being donated to the needs of the Ukrainian defence forces.
This scientific forum has shown that youth science is becoming not only a platform for the exchange of ideas but also an important factor in social change: Young researchers who are not afraid of controversial issues are committed to preserving historical memory and are looking for new ways to understand the truth. At a time when truth is becoming a weapon against manipulation and uncertainty, it is scientific research that helps to shape critical thinking, preserve heritage and create the future.
