EU Ambassador visits Yuriy Fedkovych Chernivtsi National University

On 24 October, Yuriy Fedkovych Chernivtsi National University hosted a meeting with Ms Katarína Mathernová, Ambassador of the European Union to Ukraine. The visit started with an official meeting with the Rector of the University Ruslan Biloskurskyi, Vice-Rector for International Relations and Humanitarian Work Iryna Osovska and Head of the International Office Serhii Lukaniuk. During the meeting, the parties discussed cooperation between the university and the EU in education and research programmes, including the possibility of participating in EU-funded projects. 

Ms Mathernová addressed the students in the Marble Hall, emphasising the importance of EU support for Ukrainian higher education institutions. She also shared information about opportunities for students under the Erasmus+ programme and other European educational initiatives. During the meeting, students had the opportunity to ask questions to the Ambassador and learn more about the prospects for cooperation with the European Union.  

Afterwards, Katarína Mathernová met with media representatives in the Blue Hall of the Chernivtsi National University to discuss the EU's support for Ukrainian education and youth.

The next stage of the event was a motivating lecture by Liliia Hrynevych, Vice-Rector of V. N. Karazin Kharkiv National University and former Minister of Education and Science of Ukraine, on the topic of “Education for the Post-War Development of Ukraine”.  

The lecture was followed by a discussion club “Building a Common European Future: EU opportunities for Ukrainian students” and a Q&A session. The moderator was Artem Bidenko, a media expert. Panelists: Anastasiia Omelchenko, leading specialist of the University's International Office, Larysa Vornik, coordinator of the EU Information Centre, Kateryna Zhdanova, project manager of the National Erasmus+ Office in Ukraine, and Veronika Yashnova, participant of the Erasmus+ exchange programme.

A mobile exhibition dedicated to the opportunities provided by the EU for Ukrainian youth and the academic community was also opened in the Sidor Vorobkevych Park. The exhibition will run until 30 November.
