Yuriy Fedkovych Chernivtsi National University celebrated its 151st anniversary: the university community marked University Day

On 2 October, Yuriy Fedkovych Chernivtsi National University celebrated University Day and the 151st anniversary of its foundation. The ceremonial gathering brought together lecturers, students, staff, alumni, partners and guests of the university. On this day, discussions centred on the history and traditions of Yuriy Fedkovych Chernivtsi National University, its current achievements, the people who contribute to the university’s development every day, and those who are defending Ukraine.

Professor Ruslan Biloskurskyi, Rector of Yuriy Fedkovych Chernivtsi National University, addressed the university community. University Day provided an opportunity to honour those whose professional achievements, daily work and initiative shape Chernivtsi National University today.

This year, the university’s lecturers and staff received awards from the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, the National Academy of Pedagogical Sciences of Ukraine, the Chernivtsi Regional Military Administration, the Chernivtsi Regional Council and the Chernivtsi City Council. Among those honoured were representatives from various faculties, institutes, the college and the university’s structural units.

Olga Martyniuk, Iryna Panchuk, Ivan Vaskan, Yana Popiuk, Hanna Skoreiko, Iryna Boichuk, Stepan Bryk, Olena Fotii and Nazarii Khrystan were awarded certificates of honour and certificates from the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine. Natalia Gatezh and Liudmyla Sidor received awards from the National Academy of Pedagogical Sciences of Ukraine.

University staff were also recognised with certificates and letters of appreciation from the Chernivtsi Regional Military Administration. Certificates of Honour were awarded to Mykola Hlibishchuk, Iryna Dobinda, Myroslava Kovaliuk, Ihor Martseniak, Khrystyna Melnychuk, Anastasiia Sachko and Tonia Fratavchan. Letters of appreciation were awarded to Ivan Zvizda, Oksana Kudrinska, Hanna Poklitar, Liudmyla Tsutsman and Iryna Shtefanesi.

Aliona Bakrev, Liubov Vasylyk, Tetiana Vladyka, Svitlana Vodopian, Kateryna Gazdiuk, Ivan Hatrych, Nataliia Holovatska, Andrii Moldovan and Liudmyla Ostafiychuk received awards from the Chernivtsi Regional Council. Four more university staff members – Valentina Hnatiuk, Alla Hrytsiuk, Nastasia Zahorodnia and Khrystyna Kryliuk – were presented with letters of appreciation from the Regional Council.

The Chernivtsi City Council also presented awards to the university community. Certificates of commendation were awarded to Yuliana Balaniuk, Nataliia Vatamanyuk, Andrii Veriga, Maria Guliayeva, Lilia Istratiy, Viktoriia Luchko, Anna Morar, Oksana Romaniuk, Alla Sazhina, Lilia Kozhukar, Hanna Malitska, Kateryna Melnyk, Kseniia Popovych, Tetiana Prodan and Valentina Sydoriak.

An important part of the ceremony was the recognition of university staff who are defending Ukraine. The "Unbreakable" badges were awarded to Viacheslav Kravets, Associate Professor of the Department of Economic Theory, Management and Administration, and Dmytro Spizhavka, Assistant Lecturer of the Department of Mathematical Problems of Management and Cybernetics. Volodymir Vatsaba, Associate Professor at the Department of Economic Geography and Environmental Management, and Taras Zvozdetskyi, Associate Professor at the Department of Mathematical Analysis, were awarded the "For Merit to Bukovyna" medals. For those who were unable to attend the ceremony in person, the awards were accepted on their behalf by their families.

Special attention was paid to young researchers during the celebrations. Yurii Kovaliuk, Associate Professor in the Department of Linguistics and Translation, received a certificate for the successful defence of his doctoral thesis. Certificates were awarded to Anatolii Banar, Yurii Herman, Rostyslav Diachuk, Taras Kyryliuk, Yevhen and Oleksandr Kyrychenko, Svitlana Kostantyniuk, Andrii Korolianchuk, Mykola Korop, Yurii Lutsiuk, Ivan Mikirin and Oleg Ukrainets.

University Day also provided an opportunity to thank patrons, partners and everyone who supports the development of Chernivtsi National University. During the ceremony, the contributions of philanthropists and business representatives who help to implement the university’s educational, research, youth and infrastructure initiatives were recognised. Special mention was made of the work of the Yuriy Fedkovych Chernivtsi National University Charitable Foundation, which brings together business, academia and philanthropy to modernise the university, promote digitalisation and support student and research projects.

During the ceremony, the university also thanked its partners who assist students and support the university’s infrastructure. In particular, special mention was made of Bukovyna State Medical University and Chernivtsi Polytechnic Vocational College for their help in providing students with accommodation in halls of residence.

The festive ceremony combined an official programme with musical performances. The ensemble "Folkmodern", Oleksandra Danyliuk, the duet of Iryna and Heorhii Postevko, and the vocal ensemble "Rosy" performed for the guests. The ceremony concluded with the song "Invincible Ukraine".

Chernivtsi National University’s 151st anniversary is a history of generations, scientific discoveries, educational traditions, students’ dreams and professional achievements. Today, this history is being continued by the university’s lecturers, researchers, students, alumni and staff. And each of them adds their own chapter to it – through their hard work, knowledge, creativity, voluntary work and daily dedication to Ukraine.

May there be many more years ahead of development, scientific discoveries, student successes and good deeds for the benefit of Ukraine!
