An annual student festival “From Roman to Jordan” took place at the Central Palace of Culture, which was joined by the creative collectives of Yuriy Fedkovych Chernivtsi National University. The event united youth around Ukrainian winter traditions while also serving as a charitable initiative supporting the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
CHNU students recreated Ukrainian festive customs of different generations — from the 1950s to modern days. The program featured carols, vertep, Malanka, carpa (goat dance), first-footing, traditional songs, dances, and plays that represent the rich culture of Ukraine and the country’s resilience during such challenging times.
The jury consisted of well-known Bukovinian artists:
- Oleksiy Nadkernychnyi — stage director and actor of Olha Kobylianska Chernivtsi Academic Regional Ukrainian Music and Drama Theatre;
- Marta Shumilova-Lysiakova — “Temp” theatre director, stage director, and actor;
- Ivan Pilat — director of Chernivtsi Regional Museum of Traditional Architecture and Folklife, Merited Figure of Arts of Ukraine;
- Larysa Vornik — head librarian of CHNU Scientific Library, coordinator of EU Information Centre;
- Lesia Romanchuk — director of the Academic Palace, artistic director of the “Trembita” ensemble of Bukovinian State Medical University.
The jury highlighted the students’ creativity and high level of stage work. During the festival, money was raised in order to provide Ukrainian soldiers with a DJI Mavic 3T quadcopter.
The following institutes received awards:
- I place — Faculty of Economics;
- II place — Faculty of Pedagogy, Psychology and Social Work;
- III place — Institute of Biology, Chemistry and Bioresources.
This year’s laureates were:
- Faculty of History, Political Science and International Relations;
- Faculty of Architecture, Construction, Decorative and Applied Arts;
- Faculty of Law.
The following institutes were granted special nominations:
- For preserving traditions — Separated structural subdivision “Applied Сollege of Yuriy Fedkovych Chernivtsi National University”;
- For atmosphere and festive mood — Faculty of Physical Education, Sports and Rehabilitation;
- For creative approach — Institute of Physical, Technical and Computer Sciences;
- For search and experimentation — Faculty of Foreign Languages;
- For modern interpretation — Faculty of Geography;
The best actors of this year were:
- Oleksandr Adamovych — Institute of Physical, Technical and Computer Sciences;
- Artem Zalata — Faculty of Economics;
- Bohdana Matsiuk — Faculty of History, Political Science and International Relations;
The festival concluded with a shared carol and a performance by the members of the CHNU Centre of Culture and Leisure. Organizers thanked the students, partners, and everyone present for their support of Ukrainian traditions and help for the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
