On October 4, the anniversary of Yuriy Fedkovych Chernivtsi National University, the unveiling of a memorial plaque was held at the Faculty of Mathematics and Information Technologies. It was dedicated to the Congratulatory Address by Emperor Franz Joseph I of Austria, signed on September 30, 1875.

There, in the oldest university building, on October 4, 1875, a solemn ceremony took place. It marked the beginning of Yuriy Fedkovych Chernivtsi National University’s history. A century and a half later, those walls once again witnessed an event that combined past and present, remembrance and gratitude, tradition and inspiration.

With the university leadership taking part, the initiator of the event, Dean of the Faculty of Mathematics and Information Technologies Olha Martynyuk, unveiled the memorial plaque, highlighting its symbolic meaning as a bridge between the beginning of the university’s history and the present. The event’s special guest was Volodymyr Buhrov, Rector of Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv.

The memorial plaque’s creation involved the contribution of:

• Nazariy Khrystan — Vice Dean for Research at the Faculty of History, Political Science and International Relations — researching archival materials
• Yevheniia Novak — Dean of the Faculty of Architecture, Construction and Applied Arts, alongside Kateryna Herych, Assistant Lecturer at the Department of Urban Planning and Architectural Design — responsible for the artistic concept and design
• Larysa Oleksyshyna — Associate Professor at the Department of German Philology and Translation — responsible for restoring the text of the Address in German and translating it into Ukrainian.
• Tetiana Tonenchuk — Associate Professor at the Department of Foreign Languages for Natural Faculties — responsible for the translation into English, which opens the opportunity to present the university’s history to the international community.

This event became a symbol of remembrance and gratitude to all generations who have shaped and preserved the traditions and spirit of the university. Within the walls where its history began 150 years ago, words of unity and inspiration were spoken once more.
