The «Cyberpolygon» educational and scientific center was established at the Department of Radio Engineering and Information Security

The «Cyberpolygon» educational and scientific center was established in pursuance of the decision of the Academic Council of the University (protocol №7, dated the 23rd of June, 2025) and in accordance with the rector’s order №219, dated the 23rd of June, 2025. The performance of duties of the scientific supervisor of the Center was assigned to Andriy Samila, Doctor of Technical Sciences, professor, Head of the Department of Radio Engineering and Information Security.

The primary goal of the Center’s creation is to provide practice-oriented training of professionals in the cybersecurity field by using modern simulated methods of learning, virtual simulators, and modeling of real cyber threats. The main objectives are as follows: conduction of applied scientific research in the field of information security, improvement of efficiency of implementing scientific developments in practice, and development of partnerships of the University with state institutions and business.

The launch and official opening of the Center took place on the 4th of October as part of celebrating the 150th anniversary of the Chernivtsi National University and the 36th anniversary of the Department of Radio Engineering and Information Security.

Andriy Samila, Head of the Department of Radio Engineering and Information Security, introduced the guests and moderated the event. Among those who participated in the event are as follows:
Denys Kurbatov, Deputy Minister of Education and Science of Ukraine;
Hryhorii Mozolevych, Director General of Science and Innovation Directorate of Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine;
Valentyn Pabat, Deputy Chief of Digital Development, Digital Transformation, and Digitalization Affairs at Chernivtsi Regional Military Administration.

Yuriy Khalavka, Vice-Rector for Research and Petro Shpatar, Director of Institute of Physical, Technical and Computer Sciences, also addressed the attendees with welcoming words.

The space’s creation became possible thanks to the University’s support and with the assistance by the Datami company. The Department expresses sincere thanks to Oleksandr Filipov, director of the Datami company, for help regarding the project’s realization and to all the partners who participated in the creation of the modern educational and scientific environment.

Lecturers and students at the Department actively participated in the process of preparing and setting up the Center. They worked on technical, methodical, and organizational content of the new space for a year. The following University staff received gratitudes on behalf of the University’s rector, Ruslan Biloskurskyi, for significant personal contribution to the Center’s creation: Andriy Veryha, Valentyn Lesinskyi, Serhiy Haliuk, Hryhoriy Kosovan, Oleh Krulikovskyi, Oleksandr Verenko, Mykola Sorokatyi, Yuriy Sorokatyi, Vasyl Berdeha, Taras Kazemirskyi. Students at the Department who actively contributed to the Center’s creation as well were also noted with gratitudes: Ruslan Haman and Vitaliy Dariychuk.

The «Cyberpolygon» educational and scientific center will become a platform for practical training of education seekers, conducting research and training in cybersecurity, and organizing coeducation, internships and CTF contests. The Center’s creation is an important step in the development of digital education, scientific research, and the University’s international partnership, aimed at shaping highly qualified experts in the field of cyber defence.
