On 7 August, representatives of Yurii Fedkovych Chernivtsi National University laid flowers at the monument to the writer, educator and public figure to mark the 192nd anniversary of his birth.

The tribute to Yuriy Fedkovych was attended by Yuriy Khalavka, Vice-Rector for Research; Vitalii Kindzerskyi, Chair of the Trade Union Organisation of Lecturers and Staff; as well as lecturers, staff and representatives of the university’s departments.

Since 1989, the university has proudly borne the name of Yurii Fedkovych — a man who, through his creative work, educational activities and civic stance, left a profound mark on the history of Bukovyna. It is no coincidence that he is known as the ‘Kobzar of Bukovina’. In his works, he captured the character, traditions and worldview of his native region, and also compiled and published the first Ukrainian textbooks for schools in Bukovina, affirming the right of Ukrainians to be educated in their native language.

It is for this reason that the name of Yurii Fedkovych has naturally come to symbolise culture, education and science. For over 30 years now, it has inspired the university community to preserve traditions, nurture Ukrainian identity and develop knowledge.

Honouring the memory of Yurii Fedkovych remains an important tradition at the university and serves as a reminder of a man whose legacy continues to shape the cultural and spiritual landscape of Bukovina to this day.
