On September 16, at the Church of the Three Hierarchs of Chernivtsi National University, a memorial service for Ukrainian journalists who died in the line of duty took place.

The Panakhyda was led by Bishop Feohnost of Chernivtsi and Bukovyna, alongside the clergy of the Chernivtsi-Bukovyna Diocese of the OCU. The prayer gathering brought together representatives of local media, displaced journalists, professors, and students of the Department of Journalism at CHNU.

Participants honored the memory of the journalists with a minute of silence and by lighting candles. Then, words were spoken about the importance of honest and courageous speech, a mission for which one often must pay the highest price.

Every year on September 16, Ukraine marks the Day of Remembrance of Journalists who died in the line of duty. The date was established in 2007 at the initiative of the National Union of Ukrainian Journalists in memory of Georgiy Gongadze, founder of Ukrainska Pravda, who went missing on September 16, 2000. This year marks the 25th anniversary of his disappearance.
