Professor of the Department of Vocational and Technological Education and General Physics at Yuriy Fedkovych Chernivtsi National University, Doctor of Technical Sciences and Honoured Worker of Science and Technology of Ukraine, Oleksandr Shayko-Shaykovskii, won a silver medal at the 2nd Olympic Games of Science, Education, Technology and Art, held in Milan (Italy) from 6 to 22 February.

The researcher presented a paper in the field of biomedical engineering and traumatology entitled "Advances in the treatment of long bone fractures using periosteal osteosynthesis based on computer modelling parameters". The research is dedicated to improving methods of surgical treatment for bone fractures using modern computer modelling techniques, which allows for the optimisation of periosteal osteosynthesis parameters and an increase in the effectiveness of patient treatment.

The work was prepared in collaboration with a team of specialists:

• Valerii Kryvonosov — Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor at the Department of Power Supply named after Prof. V. M. Sinkov (National University of Life and Environmental Sciences of Ukraine);

• Oleksii Dudko — Candidate of Medical Sciences, Associate Professor at the Department of Traumatology, Orthopaedics and Neurosurgery, Bukovyna State Medical University;

• Dmytro Yakymiuk — Candidate of Medical Sciences, Chief Orthopaedic Surgeon and Traumatologist of the Chernivtsi Region, Head of the Department of Traumatology and Orthopaedics at the Chernivtsi Emergency Hospital.

The 2nd Olympic Games in Science, Education, Technology and Art were attended by 658 participants from 75 countries around the world. Entries were submitted across 36 fields of science and education, as well as in 6 art forms. Following the competition, 65 sets of awards were presented; 267 participants were awarded medals — 169 scientists, educators, inventors and artists in the individual category and 29 teams (98 participants) from 27 countries. The jury included 25 Nobel Prize laureates.

This is not the scientist’s first international recognition. In 2023, Oleksandr Shayko-Shaykovskyi became a laureate of the 1st International Science Championship in Dubai, where he took third place, presenting research in the field of osteosynthesis.
