Metropolitan of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church, Andrey Sheptytsky (1865–1944), remains one of the most remarkable and multifaceted figures in Ukrainian history. A Polish count who became a Ukrainian priest, a monk skilled in business who taught Ukrainians economic self-reliance, and a wealthy man who devoted his fortune to the development of the Ukrainian Church, education, culture, and youth patriotism — Sheptytsky’s authority was unparalleled even during his lifetime.

To mark the 160th anniversary of his birth, the Scientific Library of Yuriy Fedkovych Chernivtsi National University presents the book exhibition "Servant of God and Ukraine". It features rare publications from the library’s collections, including the Arkadii Zhukovskyi Library and the Rare Books and Manuscripts Department, offering a valuable resource for studying the life and legacy of this spiritual leader.

On July 29, library staff took part in the scholarly seminar "Metropolitan Andrey Sheptytsky and the National-Spiritual Revival of Ukraine" at the Chernivtsi Regional Museum of Local Lore. Methodologist Tetiana Murashevych gave a bibliographic review of the exhibition, highlighting Sheptytsky’s lifetime publications, letters to his mother, and works about him published in Italy, Canada, and Poland.

A true patriot, Metropolitan Sheptytsky devoted his life to defending the Ukrainian idea, showing humility before God yet courageously speaking truth to power.
